Are You Working with Contemporary Paintings on Unstretched Canvas?

Posted on Fri, 02/19/2021 - 08:15

Tate is currently developing a research initiative to look specifically at the challenges associated with contemporary paintings on unstretched canvas. These include canvases that are draped, hung, rolled or folded and may be decorated with objects either adhered, sewn or hung, as well as painted. This is an emerging field and the proposed research looks to evaluate current conservation and collection management practices. We would love to hear from colleagues internationally who have works of unstretched canvas in their collections and are interested in sharing their current practice and research questions with us. If this is of interest, please get in touch with Jess Sully, Collection Care Research Manager at jess.sully@tate.org.uk. We look forward to hearing from you!
