Abstract

The sculpture “Feuer” by the Artist Martin Honert was made of glass fibre reinforced polyester. As a kind of priming a Polyurethane coating was put on the surface. After that the sculpture was painted elaborately. Today can be noticed a large-scale caviations between the the PU-coating and the glass fibre reinforced polyester. The aim of this master thesis was – based on the artist and technologic background – to find the reason for the observed phenomena and create a concept for the conservation of the sculpture. Finally a numerous of test series were started and a suitable adhesive for the bonding of both materials – polyester and polyurethane – was found.
