Abstract

A conservation and restoration strategy had to be developed for a nine piece arrangement of vacuum-formed plastics by the New York artist Les Levine. The work is part of the Beck Collection in the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum in Ludwigshafen/Rhine. The artist`s so called Disposables are in unlimited edition, therefore it was indispensable to have a good look at the subject of "Multiple" as well. The basis for compiling a treatment proposal is the examination of the artist`s intention, the manufacturing technique and the condition of the work. Several damaged areas were examined and proposals were carefully weighed up. A topometric method was used to create the three-dimensional form for the supporting construction.
