INCCA is a network of professionals connected to the conservation of modern and contemporary art. Conservators, curators, scientists, registrars, archivists, art historians and researchers are among its members. Members allow access to each others unpublished information (artist interviews, condition reports, installation instructions etc) through the INCCA Database for Artists' Archives.
Since its inception in 1999, the network has grown from 23 to around 300 members (including independents and students) from over 200 organisations in around 80 countries.
Platform for information & knowledge exchange
This INCCA website www.incca.org contains information on all kinds of activities in the field; projects, seminars and conferences via the news section, educational possibilities as well as links to numerous websites. The resource section provides direct access to good practice documents such as theoretical articles, case study descriptions and practical guidelines and formats. Student (PhD) theses are included in the resources section. Looking for relevant literature? You can start by accessing the INCCA literature database.
The INCCA Member Administration website www.inccamembers.org is for member use only and houses the INCCA Database for Artists' Archives. Through this website members can create and edit their database records, search the database, edit their contact details and search for INCCA members.
INCCA Database for Artists' Archives
This unique tool is created for and by INCCA members, allowing access to each others unpublished information. The database contains metadata records (like library cards) that describe all types and formats of documents. Each record includes keywords and an abstract as well as information on how to obtain the document.
It is now possible to attach documents of any digital format to database records making the INCCA database an even richer repository of knowledge. Different members may create records concerning the same artist resulting in a virtual artist archive.
Collaborative projects
INCCA members work together on research projects to create new knowledge for the field. Inside Installations: Presentation and Presentation of Installation Art (2004-2007) is one such project. Thirty complex installations (many multi-media) were re-installed, investigated and documented. A website was developed as a repository for the research results. www.inside-installations.org
